St. Thomas Transportation

Your mode of transportation around St. Thomas may depend on where you are staying and what you choose to do while you are here.  If you are staying in town and do not want to try to read directions or park a car, the public bus is a great way to go.  If you will be within walking distance of everywhere you want to see, maybe you will choose to take a taxi to your hotel and then wander on foot from there.  But if you are staying outside of town, plan to take daytrips, or just want complete freedom, a rental car is the best choice.

Information About Getting Around St. Thomas:  Bus Service, Taxi Service, and Rental Cars.

St. Thomas Buses

The St. Thomas bus service is great for getting around town and to and from the airport, but if you are traveling outside of the main areas the service is sparse.

St. Thomas Taxis

There are taxis to be found at the airport, though they are shared rides and not private taxis, so it will take a little longer to get to your hotel.  In order to get a quick ride with no stops in between the airport and hotel, you will want to call ahead to have a private taxi waiting for you.  The cost will be slightly higher, but it is well worth the extra fee.  If you do choose to take one of the available shared taxis, the fare will be around $3 up to $13 depending on your destination, then dropping as more people join the ride.  There will be an additional fee for luggage, so it is best to settle on a fare before getting in the cab.

St. Thomas Car Rentals

To get a true feel for the island, a St. Thomas rental car is the way to go.  Having your own wheels gives you the freedom to go where you want, when you want, and for how long you want.  Check out the list of car rental agencies and information on driving in St. Thomas.
